Ambassador Patrick Fay – USA
Board MemberHolds a Doctorate in Governance, in addition to Master’s degrees in Public Administration, Policy Studies, European Union Law, and Diplomacy and International Law, as well as Postgraduate Diplomas in Diplomatic Studies and in Peace and Conflict Studies. Has been teaching at AUN for seven years, four of them as Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Politics and International Studies.
In Fall 2021 teaching Ethics and Leadership, Post-Conflict Reconstruction, and the Honors Seminar in the Department of Politics and International Studies.
Prior to joining AUN, he spent 26 years in the Irish Civil Service and sixteen in the Diplomatic Service. In the former, he worked in a number of areas, including policy formulation and legislation preparation, corporate governance, aviation security, as well as a stint as Private Secretary to a Cabinet Minister. He also spent five years in the Civil Service Training Centre training senior management in management and other skills, including the introduction of training in Management and IT.
In the Diplomatic Service, he served for four years as Irish Energy and Nuclear Attaché to the European Union, two years in Northern Ireland on the implementation of the Good Friday Peace Agreement as well as one year in Headquarters of the Department of Foreign Affairs as Head of Support Services in Development Cooperation Division (the Irish Government’s aid program). This was followed by nine years as Ambassador in Africa, five in Lesotho, and four in Nigeria (also accredited to Ghana, Sierra Leone, and Liberia).
Patrick has a strong interest in human rights, having written three postgraduate dissertations on different aspects of the protection of human rights.
